    Corrie Bain Ceramics School - your inspiring work place

    LOCATION

    Light, spacious studio in the heart of the city

    • Our host, the Corrie Bain Ceramics School is located in the heart of the city, in the Poblenou neighbourhood, a short distance from the Arc de Triomf & Barcelona's 'Central Park' the Parc de la Ciutadella a lush green oasis in the heart of this bustling city.
    • The studio is a 5-minute walk from the charming Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter) & a 15-minute walk from the beach.
    • Residents will be immersed in the dynamic, cosmopolitan capital known for its excellent cheap food, incredible museums & distinctive architecture by Antoni Gaudí & other Catalan Modern architects. 
    • Transport: The studio is located near 2 metro stops. 
    • The studio is close to small supermarkets & restaurants.

    STUDIO FACILITIES

    Outstanding studio space & equipment

    • The spacious Ceramics School has plenty of natural light coming from large windows on both sides of the building.
    • The studio is fully equipped with 10 wheels & a brand new 300-litre electric kiln.
    • Coffee & tea are available in the studio throughout the day. A kitchenette with fridge & microwave oven is available on the premises.
    • The school is divided into 7 different areas: wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing, 20 communal co-working spaces, 9 artists spaces, kitchen & reception.
    • There is also a small gallery, library & chill-out area.

    YOGA

    Professional Yoga sessions for Residency Participants

    •  Three weekly classes are conducted by a professional yoga instructor, Katie, exclusively for Barca Beat participants.
    • Our 45-minute sessions, suitable for all abilities, are held on the beach in the mornings.
    • Our instructor, Katie Phillips, explains, 'Don’t worry if you’re a total yoga-newbie, the sessions will be accessible to everyone. No legs behind heads (unless that’s your happy place), I promise! We’ll focus on calming our minds so we can be fully present for the month & activating our entire bodies so we have plenty of energy from the start to finish.  We’ll also give plenty of love to our second chakra which is responsible for our creativity! It’s called Svadhisthana for those of you who want to know :)
    • You are welcome to swim & shower afterwards, using the beach showers, before heading to the studio to start your day focused & 'in the flow'...

    Ongoing possibilities of extending your practice


    • The atmosphere is easy-going & a typical weekday starts at 9:00 in the studio. We break for lunch between 12:30 & 1:30 pm & continue till 5 pm.
    • Residents are welcome to use studios after hours & on weekends, but without the assistance of Corrie and the technicians.
    • Core studio values are creativity, friendship, kindness, respect, humour, growth, cleanliness & a positive attitude!

    Corrie Bain

    Leading Ceramics Artist

    Corrie Bain studied Ceramics, Design and Applied Arts at Alfred University in New York & Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with a BA (Hons) Degree in 2003.

     

    She has founded two ceramics schools and has been a full-time ceramist & tutor for two decades, working in Greece, Spain, Korea, & China.

     

    Corrie recently won Third Prize at the CICA International Ceramics Competition of Alcora Museum, was selected as one of 302 artists leading the Korean International Ceramic Biennale in 2019, & is nominated to become a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.

     

    Her work has been featured in books such as The Encyclopedia of Ceramics by Peter Consentino, & magazines such as the Ceramic Review, Ceramics Monthly, New Ceramics & Revista Cerámica.

     

    Corrie is the Founding Director of the Corrie Bain Ceramics School in Barcelona.
